There are a number of options to consider when treating chronic back pain. Those include:
Cervical Epidural Injection:
A treatment in which a medication is injected near a specific nerve root in your cervical (neck) area to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.
Epidural steroid injections: (cervical, lumbar, caudal):
A treatment in which a medication is injected into the epidural space around your spinal canal to reduce inflammation and relieve pain around the spinal cord.
Facet joint injections:
Medication is injected into the inflamed facet joint (the point where to vertebrae fit together). The treatment helps to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.
Intradiscal electrothermal therapy:
A special catheter is used to strengthen the intervertebral disc so that movements cease to cause pain in the lower back.
Joint injections:
A treatment in which a medication, often cortisone, is injected into an inflamed joint to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.
Radio frequency Discograms:
A discogram is a test in which contrast fluid is injected into a disc in your spine. The test helps pinpoint which disc is causing your back or leg pain. An image is produced showing where and how the disc is damaged.
Trigger point injections:
A treatment in which a medication is injected into a muscle in your body which is causing pain and or muscle spasms. These areas in your muscle are called “trigger points.”
Spinal cord stimulators:
This device is similar to a pacemaker for the spinal cord. It controls pain by substituting a slight tingle for the pain.
