The Mississippi Valley Network’s web-based, colon cancer risk test marks its second year.
One in three Quad Citians is at risk for developing colon cancer – a deadly and silent disease that is America’s third largest cancer killer. Yet, early screening can result in a 90% survival rate.
Last year, gastroenterologists at the Mississippi Valley Health Network launched a full-scale campaign to convince Quad Citians over 50 or those at risk to get a colonoscopy. The campaign resulted in an informational web site and online test to help people determine whether or not they were at risk and due for a screening.
The test is quick and confidential. Results can be forwarded to a participating gastroenterologist if so desired.
The site also allows people to send friendly reminders to friends and family members to encourage them to consider screening for colon cancer.
