Avid mountain biker, skier and self-professed “outdoorsy person”, Josie Miller of Davenport, has won Mississippi Valley Health News Online’s June giveaway contest – a $400 gift card good for the purchase of North Face gear and equipment from Active Endeavors of Davenport. Josie has already started checking out the merchandise on the racks at Active Endeavors, but admits that there’s so much to choose from, it will be a challenge.

“I’m interested in the hiking and camping gear here,” she said. It would be two more outdoor activities to add to her impressive list of hobbies, sports and causes that has continued to grow since moving to the Quad Cities from her hometown of Toledo, OH. “When I arrived here, I picked up mountain biking and now I ‘m an avid biker. ”
“I just picked out a bike and found out I was good at it,” she said. “I enjoy pushing myself.” Josie says her favorite trail in the Quad Cities is the Sunderbruch trail in Davenport. “The black diamonds are a must.” Then again, she admits, black diamonds in the Quad Cities aren’t quite like black diamonds elsewhere.
Josie is known around Quad City biking circles as an active member of the Quad City Bike Club and helped organize the women’s bike rides this Spring.
Unfortunately, work will require Josie to move from the Quad Cities in the near future. Her new home will be in North Carolina – but she’s already talking about places to see and trails to ride. We asked Josie if she’ll continue to read MVHN Online and she promised she would. Who knows, we may even get an update on the black diamond runs for mountain bikes in the Smokey Mountains this Fall.
