There is so much going on during QC in Motion Week … check out the activities and be a part of the healthiest week in the community!

May 14 – Freight House Farmer’s Market (Davenport) and Trinity Farmer’s Market (Moline) 

Get information about QC in Motion Week, learn how to be active and get alternative transportation information and commuting tips.

May 14 (9a – 1p) – Hershey Track Meet 

Brady Street Stadium

Davenport and Bettendorf Parks and Recreation invite you to the Hershey’s Track & Field event on May 14th! This event is FREE to the youth participants age 9-14, thanks to sponsorships that support youth physical fitness. Every child is a winner with the Hershey’s Track & Field Games!

You must pre-register at Davenport or Bettendorf Parks and Recreation.

May 14 (9a – 12p) – Touch-A-Truck 

Moline Public Works Building

Do you love BIG trucks? Bring mom & dad to come see all of your favorite trucks as the City of Moline kicks off National Public Works Week!  This event is FREE, but please pre-register by calling 309-524-2424 and sign up today.  Contact Scott Lund at slund@moline.il.us for more information.

May 14 (9a start) – Pitch, Hit & Run 

Stephens Park at 7th St & 15th Ave, Moline

The MLB PITCH, HIT & RUN competition provides kids (ages 7-14) across the country an opportunity to participate in an exciting baseball skills competition with a chance of advancing to the finals in Hershey, Pennsylvania.  This event is FREE, but please pre-register by calling 309-524-2424. May 14 – 21 – “Mission Possible” Scavenger Hunt 

For ages 4-12

Your mission is this… to travel as a family to different Moline Parks and gather information beginning on May 14th. Should your mission be successful and completed by May 21st, each participating family member will receive a one-day pool pass to the Riverside Aquatic Ctr.  Call the Moline Park and Recreation Department @ 309-524-2424 or stop by the park office (Moline Public Works, 3635-4 Ave.) for packet pick-up and information.  Packets can also be downloaded at http://www.moline.il.us/printable forms.asp beginning May 1st.

May 14 (10a – 12p) – Play in Schwiebert Riverfront Park 

Families, get your running shoes on and come to Schwiebert Riverfront Park!

Kids and parents can:

  • play on the Midwest’s first electronic interactive playground
  • splash in the spray fountains
  • race through an obstacle course for fun and laughs
  • participate in a park scavenger hunt for prizes
  • enjoy silly games and relay races
  • try out a free kids fitness class
  • enjoy the Mississippi River view
  • picnic on the lawn

May 14 – 31 - Schwiebert Riverfront Park Challenge 

Kids come explore our newest park!  Pick up our scavenger hunt form this May and begin your search.  Answer all of the questions and enter your form at any of our facilities by the end of May to enter a drawing to win a Whitewater Junction Summer pass!

May 14 (12p – 3p) – Davenport Family Fest 

Centennial Park

May 14th, 12:00-3:00 pm

Help kick off Quad Cities in Motion Week with this FREE family event.  Enjoy games, entertainment, crafts, and a variety of family activities.  Instructors and camp counselors at the event will provide a sampling of summer program offerings, answer  questions and even register you on the spot.  After FamilyFest please join us for “Ride with the Director” a tour along the riverfront trail to hear about parks projects and upcoming projects that will be completed this season. May 14 (2p) – Blackhawk Hiking Club – Hike No. 2372 

Rock Island State Trail, Wyoming, IL

Today’s hike will be along part of the 26 mile long Rock Island State Trail, named for the abandoned Rock Island Railroad Line. The trail is lined with many trees and railroad ruins. This will be a hike and bike day, so bring your bike if you want and have an enjoyable bike ride.

Take Interstate 74 south to Route 17 east, Exit 32. Turn east onto Route 17 which travels south at Galva, then turns east again to Wyoming, IL. We will meet at the park located across from the Railroad Depot in Wyoming. Parking is available at the park, the depot and along the road. Watch for hike signs.

May 15 – Bike or Bus to Worship 

Exercise your body as well as your spirit this Sunday!  Enjoy a reflective walk or bike ride – or try utilizing transit on your way to your place of worship this Sunday.

May 15 (12p – 4p) – “Tour de QC” Bike Ride 

Cycle your city using streets and avenues deemed preferred by the Metro Bike Map. This year the tour’s focus is Rock Island, with self-directed biking between noon and 4 p.m.

May 16  - Learn to Row 

Sylvan Boathouse, Moline

Join us as we hold an Open House at Sylvan Boathouse for anyone in the community interested in learning to row.  You will be given an introduction to basic rowing skills and then have the opportunity to join experienced coaches and rowers from the Two Rivers YMCA Rowing Center, for a brief outing on the River.  Come experience how fun the sport of rowing can be!

  • Participants must be 14 years of age or older.
  • All participants must sign a waiver of liability; parents must sign for minors.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to swim, lift 30 pounds overhead and have good hip and knee flexibility. Please email dweaver@tworiversymca.org with any specific questions regarding physical requirements.

May 17 (4p – 7p) – “Take a Walk with Disc Golf” 

Tuesday May 17th, 4-7pm

Lowry Field in Middle Park, Bettendorf.

Have a great time, and exercise at the same time with the sport of disc golf!  This clinic will include instruction on various throwing and putting techniques, rules of the sport, and information about disc selection/local courses.  Local pros, club members and vendors will be present to give instruction and advice.  Drop by anytime between 4-7pm.  This clinic is designed for high school age players and adult players; however youth 13 and under are welcome if accompanied by a parent.  (Rain-out location will be the Life Fitness Center where the focus will be on putting and information).  Contact Tracey Lopez at tlopez@bettendorf.org for more information.

May 18 – Walk or Bike to School Wednesday 

Join students throughout the Quad Cities as they “get in motion” on their way to and from school.  Walking and biking to school is a great way to socialize with friends, get some physical activity and basically start and end the day on a great note.  Parents are encouraged to form walking groups within their neighborhoods, help their student(s) pick a safe route to walk and discuss safe pedestrian/biking principles with their child(ren).

May 19 (5p – 8p) – Loop d’Arte 

“Loop d’Arte” is an opportunity for young, old, and everyone in-between  to ride free on The Loop riverfront circulator to enjoy special programming and demonstrations from our local arts community.  The Loop drivers will help point the way, just  “hop on, hop off” at any designated Loop stop and check out the galleries, programs, demonstrations, and activities to be found at or near the various Loop stops. Themes compatible with QC in Motion week will be featured.  Join us on The Loop for an evening of family fun!

May 20 – Employee Health Walks 

Sign up now for the Employee Health Walk on May 20th and receive a FREE walking toolkit!   All employers, organizations and faith based communities are encouraged to motivate their employees/participants to get out and move on Friday, May 20th in conjunction with QC in Motion (QCIM) week.  There is no cost to participate!  As an added incentive, all groups/organizations that pre-register for the Employee Health Walk will be entered into a drawing for one of three $100 gift cards to be used towards your Wellness Program.

You may register online at:  www.activatequadcities.org.  Once registered you will receive your toolkit within a week of completing the registration form.  The purpose of the toolkit is to provide you with the resources you need to get your employees/participants moving  prior to the Employee Health Walk.   If you have questions or concerns, please call Dani Elgas at 563-359-9622.

May 21 – American Heart Association Heart Walk 

May 21 (2p) – Blackhawk Hiking Club – Hauberg Memorial Hike 

Loud Thunder Forest Preserve

Join us for the annual Hauberg Memorial Hike at Loud Thunder Forest Preserve. A potluck meal will follow the hike. Bring your own table service, cup, and a dish to share. Electricity is available for crock pots. Beverages will be provided. A brief memorial tribute to our founder, John Hauberg, will be given.

From Rte 67 south in Rock Island or Interstate 280, take Rte 92 west (The Great River Road) through Andalusia. Continue approximately 5 miles to Loud Thunder Road and turn right. It will be a “T”

intersection. Continue on Loud Thunder Road past Lake George and turn left at the next road. Follow the hike signs to Deer Haven Shelter.
