According to Quad Cities Convention & Visitors’ Bureau President and CEO Joe Taylor, the economic impact of over 10,000 bicyclists and 15,000 runners will be huge.
“There is a lot of excitement for the historic day, and people want to participate in it,” said Taylor in a July 18th Quad-City Times article. According to Taylor, several people will be planning to both “Bix and bike” on July 30.
In an exclusive interview with the Mississippi Valley Health News, Taylor provides his insights into where fans and observers can catch all the best action from the Wells Fargo Bix Street Fest to the Quad-City Times Bix 7 race to the final days’ ride for the RAGBRAI bikers.
Joe’s recommendations for places to go include:
- The Wells Fargo Bix Street Fair – the perfect launching spot to get into the street fest is the corner of Brady and Second Streets in downtown Davenport. The event is free and open to the public all day and all night on Friday and Saturday.
- Up Brady Street Hill – on the sidewalk or from a nearby building, nothing beats the view of 15,000 runners making their way up Brady Street Hill after the starting gun.
- The Palmer Skywalk – overlooking the challenging ascent of Brady Street hill is the Palmer Skywalk offer a prime view of both the start and finish of the 7-mile road race for those lucky enough to get an invitation for this VIP event.
- The Bix 7 After Race Party – located in the parking lot of the Quad-City Times, the Bix after race party is known around the country as one of the best. But if you didn’t run, too bad, the party is for runners and walkers only.
- Marquette Street Landing – the final stage of RAGBRAI will lead thousands of bikers to the Mississippi near Davenport’s Centennial Park to cap off their ride across Iowa with a tire dip in old man river.
