I love this time of year, the season is changing and all the good fall comfort food is coming out; pumpkin bread, pumpkin spiced lattes, pumpkin pies, and Halloween candy! I have always often wondered what I have to do to burn off those two handfuls of Mellowcreme Candy Pumpkins (my personal favorite).

I thought it would be fun this week to give you popular Halloween candies and what you have to do to burn those calories off.*

  • 5 miniature Milky Way chocolate bars, 190 calories | 28 minutes of a Zumba class
  • 4 miniature Snickers chocolate bars, 170 calories | A brisk walk with the dog for 50 minutes
  • 7 miniature Three Musketeers chocolate bars, 170 calories | Swim for 22 minutes
  • 3 miniature Twix chocolate bars, 150 calories  | Run at a moderate to strong pace for 10 minutes, or jog for 20 minutes
  • 20 pieces of candy corn, 150 calories | Hit the stair climber at the YMCA for 25 minutes
  • 1 piece of licorice, 70 calories | 25 minutes of yoga
  • 1 Fun Size M&M packet – Plain or Peanut, 90 calories | 10 minutes of bike riding
  • 1 piece pumpkin pie (1/8 of 9-in pie), 180 calories | 1.8 mile walk or 3600 steps

Now Try This
A medium sized apple weighs in at about 80 calories and offers many nutritional benefits, in addition to keeping you satisfied longer than snacks from empty calories. It will only take you 8 minutes to burn it off on the elliptical machine.

A medium sized banana translates to about 130 calories of quality nutrition, and requires only 15 minutes of moderate biking to burn it off.

One cup of pretzels is about 150 calories, and can be burned in just by doing 45 minutes of general housework, such as sweeping and washing dishes.

*All of these calculations are based on a 150 pound individual.
