Wildcat Den’s 417 acres of exceptional beauty feature imposing sandstone exposures. Well maintained hiking trails affords the hiker access to many points of interest, including rock formations dating back nearly 375 million years. Picturesque sandstone cliffs, rock outcroppings and glens provide spectacular views. Arrive early and take in the Pine Creek Grist Mill located in the eastern part of the park on Pine Creek. The mill, built in 1848, is one of the finest examples of mid-nineteenth century mills. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. Nearby is the Melpine Schoolhouse which offers another glimpse into Iowa’s past.
